ASHURA IS COMING...
The first in a series of free screenings in association with Edinburgh University Film Society: Firecracker Magazine - the UK's leading East Asian film magazine supported by the UK Film Council - and Yume Pictures are proud to present an exclusive preview of Japanese fantasy-samurai epic, Ashura. And if that's not enough to entice, there will be some free beer courtesy of Tiger, too. Featuring one of the most spectacular opening sequences and from director Yojiro Takito (When the Last Sword is Drawn) Ashura is a visual feast.
Ichikawa Somegoro stars as Isumo, a retired demon killer who now passes his time as a kabuki actor in 19th century Tokyo. After accidentally killing a child, Izumo swore never to draw his sword again, but evil is afoot and a conspiracy is in full swing to awaken the powerful demon queen Ashura. Can Izumo really stand back and watch the demons take over the world, or will he join the fight once more and battle the forces of evil?
A successfully adapted stage play, featuring incredible effects and stellar swordplay, Ashura is one not to be missed. Released on DVD in the UK on January 23rd 2006, this is your chance to see the film on the big screen before it hits the streets. For your ticket, simply sign up and subscribe to www.firecracker-magazine.com (don't worry, it's free!) and follow the instructions in the 'Events' section (Subscriber Screenings) to claim your FREE e-ticket. You'll then receive Firecracker Magazine direct to your inbox on the first Friday of every month, bringing you all the latest reviews, features and interviews direct from across East Asia. And you'll also be the first to hear of any other screenings...
