One week of fun for Freshers!
"So you're new in Edinburgh, you've just moved into your new accommodation for the next 9 to 12 months, it.s a week before the semester starts, you don't know anyone... Don't worry we were all Freshers once (some longer ago than others).
Not sure what to do? Come along to one of our free (yep, completely free of charge) screenings during the week. Heck, invite your new flat-mates, your entire corridor, a new friend or simply come alone. They are a great way to meet new people and have a good time watching one of the fab selection of films we have to offer you this Freshers Week. Why not come along to all of them? There's even one outdoors! In Scotland!
Want to get more involved in one of the largest student societies in Edinburgh? Then speak to one of our committee members. It's a great way to make new friends, socialise and even get involved in the running of the society, from turning up occasionally at meetings and voting on the films you want us to show next semester, to standing for one of our executive committee positions.
Whatever you decide to do, we hope you'll decide to join (it works out at less than 25p-per-film!) and have lots of film related fun. But even if you don't we wish you a great week and try not to spend all your student loan on alcohol in this one week. We know it's fun but hangovers are not fun and you still have to buy textbooks and whatnot... never mind, we know you won't listen...We didn't...

Anyone can come along and watch a film at FilmSoc. Simply consult our handy posters, website, or other listings (grab a friend and look at the inside of their season ticket), and come along about 15 minutes before the start time. The fee for going to one screening is only £2.50 (for EUSA members) or you can buy a season ticket...
Wanting to watch more than one film? Our season tickets mean you can come along to any of the films in our regular programme without paying anything more! Perfect for those cold January evenings when you're broke and bored. And you get a whole set more freebies to enjoy.
Get your season ticket at the Freshers' Fair or at any one of our screenings, and you'll open a whole world of films.
| Season Ticket Prices | One term | Two terms |
|---|---|---|
| Students and concessions | £10 | £15 |
| Non-students | n/a | £30 |
You can pay by cheque (with guarantee card) or hard cash. Unfortunately, we cannot accept credit, debit or Mondex cards. Foreign currency may be accepted at our Treasurer's discretion but please be aware that our exchange rates are ludicrously weighted in our favour.
You'll be given a season ticket which lets you into all the films; a stylish poster which lists all the films; and a lavish magazine crammed full of reviews written by members like you. You'll also be told about the other events we run including viewing sessions, pub quizzes and committee events (which are, of course, the best).
Happy film-watching!
In case you're wondering, the Pleasance Courtyard is actually a graveyard. Have a look at the gravestones set in the wall on the right hand side.
Just bear that in mind next time you're having a picnic on the grass...
