Naturally, a society this big needs a lot of organisation. So, in addition to the exec committee, there are plenty of other jobs to be done.
We need people to make sure that the theatres we use are ready to screen films, and also make sure that the night runs smoothly. All committee members help out on the door at each screening (there's a rota) but some people also need to move the films, sell food and drink, and even just talk to people.
The Publicity team make sure that our members and the general public are kept informed. We need people to create dazzling and eye-catching posters which people read, write programme notes which critique films, publish the magazine and poster, and maintain the website.
Development covers a number of areas, but in all cases the end result is getting more for our members. We need people for our advertising team to get companies to give us various things by smiling at them a lot, either in person, or by phone or letter. Likewise, the PR people try to make sure that everyone smiles when they talk to us. As we are such a large organisation we also have people who liase with local business, cinemas, the University, EUSA, the BFFS and umpteen other organisations. There are also people who try and get grants and other funding.
The more the merrier. To operate a projector only needs one person. But... this would be a complete nightmare. The technical and projection team make sure that films get played, equipment gets repaired and do all the jobs that require bulletproof jackets.
If you're interested in doing any of the above, please come along to one of our meetings or contact us. We're always happy to have new people on board!
